Donizetti reinstated
PA Dunedin Donizetti has been reinstated as the winner of the Otago Stayers Plate, run at Wingatui on June 1. A sub-committee of the Otago District Racing Committee, chaired by Reg Hall, upheld an appeal by Donizetti’s owner Cyril Smith against the decision of the judicial committee of the Otago Racing Club to relegate the horse from first to third placing. Donizetti was reinstated to first, with Kelistan second and Red Consul third. The sub-committee found that while Donizetti did cause some interference to Red Consul and Kelistan about 200 metres from the finish, it was not bad enough to affect the placings. The decision was unanimous.
