Delark reinstated
The result of The McCloy Memorial, run at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on April 20, was finally settled on Monday. Delark, third to Likely Lord and Belter Skelter, but then disqualified for causing interference, has been reinstated to her original placing. This follows a succesful rehearing of the case on June 5. The result of the rehearing was not released until Monday as Delark’s trainerdriver, lan Cameron, had applied for a review of a suspension he incurred that day.
Cameron’s rehearing was
heard on Monday but was not successful. He has been suspended up to and including July 6. Delark regained third place at the expense of Coastal Trader because of the opinion of the sub-com-mittee both Nostradamus and Toris, which Delark had checked, had come to the end of their runs. “We feel the interference in this case was not deliberate, and not serious enough to warrant the disqualification of Delark.
“The matter might have been met solely by dealing with the driver I. R. Cameron,” said the sub-commit-tee.
The $lOO deposit was refunded to the owners of Delark. Cameron, however, forfeited his $5O deposit. The sub-committee hearing his case felt it was important when an inquiry was being undertaken by stipendiary stewards that not only should the rules of trotting be cited but a definite charge should be preferred against a horseman even though the main inquiry was whether the horse should be disqualified. “It further takes the view that when a penalty is imposed, the rule under which it is imposed should be stated by the steward when he is making his decision.”
