Bronze Valley thriving

special correspondent Palmerston North Bronze Valley came through his Whyte Handicap trial in fine style at Awapuni yesterday morning. The grey has thrived since running a good race at the Manawatu meeting last month and trainer Margaret Bull is confident of a big effort in the mile at Trentham. Brian Hibberd will ride Bronze Valley, which has a good draw and handy weight. The Whyte has drawn a strong field yet it will surprise if this horse is far away. Working on the plough, which was wet, Bronze Valley had Diamond Raider as a companion and they finished together over 1000 metres in Imin 6s the last 600 iK 395. Diamond Raider has improved since starting

a fresh campaign here last month. He has won in heavy ground at Trentham and might go well in the Mornington Handicap at Trentham. On the inside trial Under the Clock and Lomondy covered 1000 metres in Imin 5.45, the last 600 in 39.45, with both working strongly at the finish. Under the Clock ran a good race on the first day at Hastings. He is not engaged on the first day at Wellington, neither is Lomondy. Lone Arrow was timed from the 1600 metres in Imin 535, the last 600 in 41s. He has been working well and hurdling has done him good. He might go well in the first day highweight at Trentham. Mahala Bay sprinted gfrom the 800 metres in 52.65, she last 600 in 38.65.
