Cattivo picked to win first leg at Cambridge

Special correspondent Auckland Cattivo had no chance with Mr Mako last time out but there is none in his class in the main race on the Cambridge Jockey Club’s restricted programme meeting at Te Rapa today. The event is the Cambridge Stud Handicap, a class three 2100 metres, the first leg of the T.A.B. double and the T.A.B. trifecta race.

Cattivo was runner-up to Mr Mako at Avondale on June 14 and though beaten by eight lengths she made up a considerable amount of ground in the run home. Mark of Honour should be her toughest rival. He ran on solidly for seventh over 1600 metres at Pukekohe on June 21 in only his third race after a long break. Selanii, a mare from New Plymouth, won at Te Rapa two starts back, on June 5,

and is entitled to respect on that score. Supreme Style went an improved race for sixth at Tauranga nine days ago. Spectacular Night should win again in the second leg, the class three Lorigan Handicap over 1400 metres. He scored at long odds in a weight-for-age 1400 metres at Rotorua last Friday and will in future be ineligible for class three races.
