BIL seeks more of Trans-Ash
PA Wellington A proposal for Brierley Investments, Ltd, to increase its interests in Trans-Ashburton, Ltd, is being studied by the MidCanterbury transport operator. Trans-Ashburton said it is considering a proposal for BIL to purchase from the shareholders of the operating transport subsidiaries, subject to the requisite consents being granted, 45 per cent of the shares in the capital of the company. This would bring BlL’s interest to 62 per cent. It was also proposed that
the company would sell to the shareholders of the operating transport subsidiaries the company’s 60 per cent holding in those companies. A special meeting of the company would be held on July 25 to discuss and sanction the proposals. Trans-Ashburton will pay a final dividend of 4c a share (8 per cent) for the year to June 30. The books close on July 22 and the dividend will be paid on September 30. Mr C. J. Thompson has joined the board as a representive of BIL.
