The scene from Mount John as trees are uncovered by the falling level of Lake Tekapo. The lake rose to its record high level of 713.85 metres above sea level just before Christmas last year, but has dropped dramatically to 706.95 metres. The lakes lowest level of 702.02 metres was set about 10 years ago. The nearby Tekapo township has increased in size considerably in the last few years, the latest addition being a new 28-section subdivision.
