Price challenge to Mrs Kerens
PA Tauranga An Opposition member of Parliament, Mr Winston Peters, has challenged the Minister of Womens Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Hercus, to a shopping trip tallying up prices. He wants Mrs Hercus to prove her claim that prices have increased only 12.3 per cent in 12 months. “Her claim of a 12.3 per cent increase is against all the experience of women and men shopping in supermarkets in the last 12
months,” Mr Peters said. “It is also totally out of line with Statistics Department records produced month by month since the election.” Mr Peters said prices had jumped considerably higher than Mrs Hercus claimed. “If I am wrong, I will pay for the basket of goods,” he said. “But as I will prove her wrong, she can pay for the basket and deliver the goods to the nearest social welfare home.”
