Long career in scouts

A Christchurch man who will represent rover scouts in Japan is a clerical worker and part-time university student. Mr Geoffrey Mcßobie will be one of three rover scouts to attend the fourday 1985 International Youth Symposium as part of a two-week stay in Japan, designed to foster international understanding and friendship between scout leaders and scouts. The symposium will be held in the foothills of Mount Fuji, between July 24 and 28. Mr Mcßobie works in the Social Welfare Department in Christchurch. During his spare time, he is studying at the University of Canterbury for a bachelor of commerce degree. He began his scouting career as a cub, then moved on to scouts and venturer scouts, where he received the Queen’s Scout award and the Duke of Edinburgh gold award. As a rover scout Mr Mcßobie has been a member of the organising committee for the fifth AsiaPacific (New Zealand Golden Jubilee) Rover Scout Moot, planned for Christchurch in March, next year. Rover scouts are the young adults of the scout movement who, while continuing the traditional role of scouts in the community, also become involved in social and cultural activities.
