Interest-free loans for heaters urged
Interest-free loans for the purchase of storage electric heaters by commercial users were discussed by the Riccarton Borough Council’s electricity committee last evening. The council wants to promote the use of storage heaters because they do not attract peak electricity charges. Storage heaters cost 3.12 c a unit of electricity, compared with 11.4 c for some other heaters.
The committee decided to recommend offering commercial electricity consumers interest-free loans for storage heaters for the next three months. Payments would be made every two months with the consumer’s power bill. The borough’s electrical engineer, Mr I. R. Densem, said replacing a 3kW radiant heater with a 3kW storage heater would cost about $9OO.
