Telethon proceeds for rapid return
PA Wellington Proceeds of this year’s record $6 million Telethon would be returned to the community as quickly as possible, said the chairman of the Child and Youth Development Trust, Mr Fred Turnovsky, yesterday. Although the trust had up to three years to spend the money, Mr Turnovsky said he wanted the proceeds distributed in less than two. “We have become more and more conscious of the needs of children and young people, 5 ’ he said. “Already there have been requests for more than 1600 grant application forms. “It will be a mammoth job to consider applications and we estimate requests for grants will outstretch available funds about five to one.” Applications for Telethon funds have to be lodged with the trust by September 30. Mr Turnovsky said the trust would meet again at the end of next month to refine its system for distributing funds.
