Fog causes late arrival of flight
It was a case of “no room at the inn” twice for 77 Christchurch-bound passengers on Air New Zealand flight 547 on Friday night, the Press Association reported. The Boeing 737 was due to land at Christchurch from Auckland at 10.20 p.m., but the airport was closed by fog about 10pm. The crew of the jet was directed back to Auckland but it was then discovered that because of big sports attractions — including Saturday’s All
bies rugby test and yesterday’s rugby league clash between New Zealand and Australia — no hotel accommodation could be found. Flight 547 was then instructed to go to Wellington. But after the aircraft landed at 11.20 p.m., the passengers were told there was no accommodation available in the capital. After taking on more fuel, Flight 547 again headed for Christchurch where the fog had lifted and finally landed at 12.35 a.m.
