16 arrests at test

PA Auckland Sixteen people were arrested and two suspected bombs blown up during the rugby test between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park on Saturday.

Spectators discovered a parcel in women’s toilets under the south stand about 2.30 p.m. Anti-tour leaflets were scattered about the toilet.

A short time later a parcel was found in men’s toilets nearby. Detective Chief Superintendent lan Mills said after the test that the police were warned a device had been placed in one stand. Military and Labour Department explosives experts were on hand when the devices were found. They decided to detonate them under the stand.
