Japan criticised by M.P.
NZPA-AFP London Japan is preventing the import of British-made bicycles because they have not been tested by a Japanese Olympic gold medallist cyclist, says a British member of Parliament.
A Conservative M.P., Richard Hickmet, said the Japanese Government was refusing licences to Britishmade bicycles because their quality had not been tested by a gold medallist. “But,” he said, “there is no such animal as a Japanese Olympic gold medallist cyclist. “This is just one of the many outrageous tricks and ruses indulged in by Japan in pursuit of their indefensible trade practices,” Mr Hickmet said.
"The time has come to stop talking and start doing if the Japanese are to be prevented from hijacking our industries and jobs. We must act, and the sooner the better.”
