PA Wanganui A woman died early yesterday when the car she was driving burst into flames after a head-on collision with a 22-tonne truck just north of Ohingaiti. A police spokesman said the driver, the sole occupant of the car, was believed to be from the. Hamilton area. Medical and dental records were needed to help identify the body. The truck driver, Paul Jethro Hill, aged 35, of Opiki, near Palmerston North, suffered minor injuries. The southbound 1962model car and the northbound truck and trailer unit collided at 3 a.m. The truck travelled about 100 metres before dropping over a two-metre bank and coming to rest on the Main Trunk railway line, blocking it. Twelve big containers of potatoes spilled on to the road. The five-hour closing of the track delayed the southbound Northerner and a number of goods trains.
