Wife ‘will see it out’

PA Tauranga Mr John Kirk’s wife, Yvonne, was the type of person who would stick by her husband and see it out, said her uncle, Mr Stan Redit, yesterday. “It is a marriage situation, and she is a person who will stick with her partner,” he said.

“She is like her mother ... she would cling. Some would be off but not Yvonne; she is not that type of girl.” , The Kirks married in 1983. Mrs Kirk is a former air hostess. Mr Redit, of Mount Maunganui, said that with Mr Kirk in jail in Dallas, his concern and that of his wife, Vee, at the moment was the safety of Yvonne Kirk. They would like to see her return to New Zealand. “Texas is a big place for

a woman to be on her own and we don’t know what friends she has there or even if she has a job.

“It must be tough on her with John in jail... she is a homely, trusting girl;” Mr Redit said he would like to see Mr Kirk’s name “cleared.” “A man is innocent in New Zealand until proved guilty, and I think that is right.” Mr Redit said Mr Kirk was “quite a fine chap, a very thoughtful chap,” he said.
