College wants more female staff

PA Dunedin The Dunedin Teachers’ College Council wants more women on the staff. The council decided that with 80 per cent female trainees and 35 per cent female staff members, something should be done to redress the balance. The council has decided to aim at a 50 per cent minimum of women on the staff, that 50 per cent of the senior ‘ positions should be held by women, and at least one of the three executive positions should belong to a women, said the college principal, Mr L. Taylor. At present the college principal, vice-president and dean are all males. The council has also appointed a “staff developmental committee” to make sure that women, and indeed men, on the college staff, have an equal opportunity to accumulate the necessary experience and qualifications so that they have' a good chance of getting senior positions.
