Big coal tonnage for shipment
About 58,000 tonnes of coal is due to be shipped overseas from Lyttelton’s coal stockpile over the next two weeks and a half. A small shipment of 3500 tonnes of Denniston coal, bound for Korea, will be loaded on board the Spraynes on Sunday. The ship is expected to leave for Korea on Sunday evening. The biggest shipment so far this financial year is expected to be loaded on Wednesday, when the Kamagong will take on 38,000 tonnes of Stockton coal. On June 18, the Key Splendor will load a further 18,000 tonnes of coal from Greymouth and Reefton. These three shipments follow a 30,000-tonne coal shipment to Japan this week on the Kinushima Maru. Last year more than 325,000 tonnes' of coal was exported from Lyttelton. The record shipment went in January, 1984, when 48,000 tonnes was
