Sergeant-at-Arms to retire
PA Wellington Parliament’s Sergeant-at-Arms, Wing Commander Bob McKay, will retire. ■ His retirement date had yet io be announced and would depend on when his successor was appointed. The position had been advertised, the said administration officer for the Clerk i of the House. Apart frOm being the cus-. todian of the Mace, the Sergeant-at-Arms attends the Speaker and executes any order made by the Speaker. He regulates'the conduct of visitors to the public galleries at Parliament, helps approve the appointments of Parliamentary messengers, and is responsible for the arrangements for the opening of Parlia-, ment. He is also assistant secre-tary-treasurer of the New Zealand branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the New Zealand group of the InterParliamentary Union.
