United has bogey to overcome
Christchurch Brother United will have the opportunity to achieve its first Rothmans Soccer League win over Landbase Papatoetoe at English Park tomorrow.' Since the south Auckland club joined the national league in 1983, United has managed one draw and three losses. The most recent was a 2-1 defeat in Auckland in March. The United coach, Laurie Blyth, was not particularly impressed with Papatoetoe on that occasion, but clearly
the team has improved in recent weeks, and was distinctly unlucky not to at least share the points with N.Z. Permanent Gisborne last week-end, being on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller. * United got back to winning ways last Sunday with a single goal defeat of the bottom-placed Napier City Rovers, after having its captain, Keith Braithwaite, sent off midway through the first half. With the exception of replacing the suspended
Braithwaite, Mr Blyth is keen to retain the same lineup which performed most satisfactorily in Napier. He does have injury worries with Russell Cotton and John Hanson which could alter his thinking. Happily enough, he has several options to consider should a significant reshuffle be required. United has been forced to raise the gate prices starting tomorrow. Admission prices will be $3 for adults and $1.50 for senior citizens and youths.
In the other five matches this week-end, N.Z. Permanent Gisborne will entertain 4XO Dunedin City, Southmall Manurewa will play University Cowan, Masport Mount Wellington will play Napier City Rovers, Hani-mex-North Shore will face DB Wellington and National Mutual Miramar will meet McKee Nelson United. Only one match will be played in the Hertz League; South Canterbury United will entertain Western in Timaru today.
