Media ‘blanket’ criticised
A national rugby councillor, Mr John Stewart, said yesterday that the news media should not be kept in the dark over the World Cup competition planned for Australia and New Zealand in 1987. Speaking at a council meeting of the New Zealand R.F.U. in Christchurch yesterday, Mr Stewart said that as much business as possible should be aired in open meeting. “If the media is shut out, the World Cup will be the
poorer in its promotion and publicity.” Earlier, in open meeting Mr Tom Johnson had briefly outlined a meeting he and Mr Dick Littlejohn had had with Australian organisers in Sydney last week-end. “The meeting was characterised by good will with the Australians. We have established a committee structure which should work satisfactorily in both match and marketing preparations,” Mr Johnson said.
