Riccarton borough
Sir,—Vernon Wilkinson (May 29) seems annoyed that the Riccarton Borough Council has shown common sense and moral fibre by voting against declaring Riccarton a nuclear-free zone. He also suggests
this is a reason in favour of amalgamating Riccarton into the control of “nuclear-free” Christchurch. Riccarton’s councillors, by rejecting fluoridation, compulsory amalgamation and nuclear-free zones, have shown their independence and intelligence. By keeping rates the lowest in Christchurch, they have proved their frugality and efficiency. If there is to be any amalgamation, then Christchurch city should become part of Riccarton. — Yours, etc., T. R. LOUDON, Kaiapoi. May 29, 1985.
