Jobless funding for study
PA Wellington The Minister of Employment, Mr Burke, said yesterday that he would set up a caucus committee to consider funding for unemployed workers’ organisations. Mr Burke was speaking after meeting a delegation from Te Roopu Rawakore o Aotearoa (Unemployed Workers and Beneficiaries’ Movement of New Zealand) at the Beehive. He said the committee would look at the role of the unemployed groups and the possibility of their funding. “We will try to do that as quickly as we can.” Answering a question, Mr Burke said he would not have called for a review of funding had it not been for the leaking last week of details of Government officials’ proposals to cut spending on youth unemployment benefits and training allowances.
