More time given to growers
PA Wellington Forest growers have been given extra time to put in a claim under the old forestry encouragement grants scheme, said the Minister of Forests, Mr Wetere. The scheme, which was abolished in the last Budget, paid a 45 per cent grant for the planting and management of trees to farm foresters, forest growers, and companies with forestry interests. It was replaced by tax deductions. Claims for land preparation, planting, tending, and associated costs incurred before the 1984 Budget night would be accepted by the Forest Service until December 19, Mr Wetere said. Many eligible people had been unable to get claims lodged by January 31 — the closing date for the scheme
— and so an extension had been made.
