Cost avoids conflict

PA Wellington The anti-tour group, Cost 85, impressed the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ken Thompson, yesterday with its attitude to protesting. Mr Thompson met three members of the group to discuss protest and policing methods during the antitour demonstrations.

“I was most impressed with the attitude of these people,” Mr Thompson said after the meeting. Cost 85 told Mr Thompson that the group's aim was to stop the tour of South Africa by the All Blacks, but they intended to do so without getting into a conflict with the police “in the law and order-type activity.”
