NZPA-Reuter Paris The New Zealand No. 1. Chris Lewis, came safely through the first round of the French Open tennis championships in Paris yesterday. Lewis defeated Israeli veteran Shlomo Glickstein
6-1, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Earlier. Bruce Derlin went down 4-6, 0-6. 4-6 to Dutchman Michael Schapers while Russell Simpson again revealed his weakness on clay by succumbing 2-6. 2-6. 2-6 to Alejandro Ganzabal (Argentina) in just 72 minutes.
