Sympathy for Bengalese

PA Wellington The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, has sent a message of sympathy to the President of Bangladesh about the Bengal tidal flood disaster. Mr Lange said the Government and people of New Zealand had been shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic news which had come from Bangladesh in recent days.

“As a small island nation we know the power of the elements, but the tragedy you are experiencing at present is on a scale which few nations are called upon to endure. Our deepest sympathy is with all those who have been affected,” Mr Lange said.

He said the Government was considering giving emergency relief to those affected in the disaster.
