A marketing officer ‘needed’
A professional marketing officer should be appointed to the Canterbury Promotion Council to promote the region nationally, a tourism marketing study has recommended. The officer would be responsible for the strategic co-ordination of all promotional activity for the region, and the job would entail the innovative marketing of Canterbury. The study was commissioned by the council, and its full report and list of recommendations will be released at a meeting this evening with the 1985-86 regional promotion plan. A preliminary summary
of the report indicated that Christchurch should continue to be treated as a stopover or gateway for> international visitors, not as a principal destination in its own right, and that Christchurch - Airport needs greater use by international airlines.
“The natural and rural environment of the Christchurch region, within relatively close proximity of Christchurch City, offers an extensive range of existing and potential visitor attractions which would lend themselves to further promotion and development,” the report said.
