Chinese newspaper expands
NZPA-AP Hong Kong The Chinese Communist Party’s official newspaper, the “People’s Daily" (“Renmin Ribao"), will inaugurate its first overseas edition on July 1 in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong. Yuan Xianlu, representative of the “People’s Daily" in Hong Kong, said the overseas edition would be edited in ’ Peking and transmitted via satellite to all the cities except Paris for printing. For Paris, the newspaper would fly in film for the printing. Yuan said the eight-page overseas edition would be edited specially for Chinese people living abroad and “lengthy editorials and speeches by Chinese leaders will be abridged.” He estimated the initial daily circulation of the overseas edition at 50,000.
