Striking trophy for winner
The winner of the Skellerup Young Farmer of the Year contest will receive a trophy steeped in the history of the contest and of its sponsors. The striking bronze statuette (pictured above) features the viking ship emblem of Skellerup Industries, signifying the Scandinavian ancestry of the com-, pany’s founder, the late G.
W. Skellerup, who was born in Denmark. Reflecting the company’s hallmarks of courage, endeavour and industry, the trophy lends itself most appropriately to the Young Farmer contest, which culminates this year in Wanganui, on July 19. “Today’s farmers must possess these qualities as they face the challenges of
our times and of the future,” says Mr Peter J. Skellerup, chairman and managing director of Skellerup Industries, and son of the founder. The names of the past 16 winners of the contest are mounted around the solid wooden base of the trophy. This year’s winner, as have ail the previous ones, will keep the trophy for a year.
