Gang member jailed after Chch incident
PA Dunedin A member of the Dunedin Mongrel Mob has been jailed for four months on a charge of unlawful assembly, and three charges of driving while disqualified. Robert Christopher Smith, aged 22, who appeared in the District Court at Dunedin on Friday was also disqualified from driving for one year on each of the driving charges, these terms to be concurrent. The charge of unlawful assembly arose from an incident in Christchurch on April 1 between the Mongrel Mob and the Black Power gangs. A charge of riot against Smith was withdrawn by the police and was replaced with the charge of unlawful assembly. On a charge of assault relating to an incident in Dunedin, Smith was convicted and discharged.
