Minister not consistent—M.P.
The Minister of Education told the Labour Party conference in Wellington his plans for education spending after refusing to tell Parliament, according to the member of Parliament for Selwyn, Miss Ruth Richardson. The Minister, Mr Marshall, had told Parliament that it must wait until two days before the next Budget to hear of his intentions, Miss Richardson said last evening. “It is obvious that Mr Marshall decided to tell a
Labour conference his education plans to help the party gain political mileage for the Timaru by-election,” she said. “Yet the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, has made great play on the fact that this next Budget is not designed to seek votes. “As Opposition spokesman on education I have asked Mr Marshall almost every day to outline his plans. If he was consistent he would have waited until two days before the Budget before revealing them.” Earlier report, page 2
