PA Auckland Children of the Auckland Irish Dancing Society formed a guard of honour outside St Patrick’s Cathedral yesterday for the President of Ireland, Dr Patrick Hillery, who attended the 11 a.m. Mass Dr Hillery was met by the administrator of the cathedral, Monsignor Brian Arahill, and escorted to the front row of the recently refurbished building. In his sermon, Monsignor Arahill said the Catholic Church in Auckland had its beginnings in Irish settlers. The chaplain to the Irish Society in Auckland, Monsignor Paul Kelly, welcomed Dr Hillery in 9 ae l ic and Maori. He told the congregation that Dr Hillery’s cousin, Father Michael Hillery, had been responsible for promoting Gaelic music into the liturgy in Ireland. Dr Hillery will leave New Zealand this morningi
