Paparua plans to spend $60,000 on reserves

The Paparua County Council’s reserves committee endorsed the 1985-86 reserves development estimate of $60,330 at its meeting last evening. Some of the councillors expressed a concern that a proposed sealed car-park at the Halswell Domain costing $B5OO would be more useful to a planned shopping complex in the area than to pool users or ratepayers. These councillors favoured a gravel car-park. The committee deferred this item from the estimates un\l a further inspection of the ear-park could be made.

The most expensive item budgeted for in the estimates is new fencing of reserves at a cost of $ll,OOO. Among the reserves to be fenced are the Cicada Place. Sedgewick Way, Rearsby Drive, Trevor Street and Halswell Junction Road reserves.

New planting in parks and reserves has been allocated $lO,OOO and another $lO,lOO has been set aside for loans to sports organisations.

A sum of $5OOO has been allocated to finish the Warren Park adventure pitground. ”

The reserves superintendent, Mr M. D. Rykers, said that $4OOO was needed for irrigation equipment to support good turf management at Halswell Domain. Another $4OOO has been allocated to the Trevor Street Reserve pathway.

Kyle Park's playing field upgrading is expected to cost $3500. New reserve development, including Heidi Place and the stream reserves, will cost $3OOO.

Park furniture and play equipment has been allocated $3500 and continued work on the Templeton

Domain Driveway has been allocated $2500.

Screen planting and protective fencing is required along both road frontages of the Springs Road pit, at an estimated cost of $l5OO. The council has run a popular Arbor Day planting programme for several years and $lOOO has been allocated for the programme this vear.

Signs for control and identification purposes have been allocated $BOO and $430 has been set aside for drainage and pumping equipment in theft- Kyle Park toilet block. ?
