This list of activities covers programmes organised for the first week of the May school holidays.

Libraries Canterbury Public Library: All ages. Today, 10.30 a.m., senior serial; 11 a.m., Natural Magic Puppet Theatre. Friday, 10.30 a.m., senior serial; 11 a.m., films. Sumner Children’s Library: All ages. Today, 2 p.m., story time. Spreydon Public Library: All ages. Friday, 2.30 p.m., puzzles and colouring-in. Shirley Public Library: All ages. Today, 2 p.m., pet care — a talk from a vet. Friday, 11 a.m., story time. New Brighton Public Library: Today, 2 p.m., films. Friday, 10.15 a.m., storytime; 2.15 p.m., craft time - making egg-box bees.

Papanui Public Library: All ages. Today, 10 a.m., films.

Rangiora Public Library: All ages. Today, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Under seven years, story time. Over seven years, today, poster making. Community centres Shirley Community Centre: Two to seven years. Today and Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m.; Story Book Theatre. $1 admission (door sales only).

Mt Pleasant Community Centre: All ages. Today and Friday, 12 noon to 3 p.m., activities include make-up, hair care, ice-skating, bread making, disco, self-defence, bicycle maintenance, story readings, squash, table tennis, badminton, pool. For further information phone 843-495.

Ferrymead Historic Park: Open daily, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m, museum of transport and technology, 269 Bridle Path Road, Heathcote Valley. Mount Cook National Park: At park visitor centre. Bring strong footwear, jersey, and raincoat on walks. Tasman Valley walk requires lunch to be brought. There is a short drive to the start of the Hooker and Tasman Valley walks (own transport appreciated). Today, 1.15 p.m., hike to Red Tams look-out; 8 p.m., talk on search and rescue: Friday, 1.15 p.m., walk along Wakefield track; 8 p.m., talk on mountain birds: Saturday, 1.15 p.m., walk through beech forest of Governors Bush; 8 p.m., talk on snow and dangers of avalanches: Sunday, 1.15 p.m., talk on

mountain weather then visit to weather recording station; 8 p.m., talk on conflicts faced by national parks with increasing tourism.

Orana Wildlife Park: All ages. Open daily, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Features include kiwi house, exotic animals, lion feed at 11.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. $4 adults, $2 children. McLeans Island Road.

Theatres Canterbury Children’s Theatre: All ages. Today and Friday, 7 p.m., and Saturday, 2 p.m., “Cinderella” at the Repertory Theatre. $4.50 children, $6.50 adults. Court Theatre: Suitable for family (includes audience participation). Today and Friday, 11 a.m., children’s play entitled, “The Thunderbird.” Bookings at theatre.

Elmwood Players: Children up to 12. Today and Saturday, 6.30 p.m., and Saturday 2 p.m., a pantomime for children “The Tale of The Red Dragon.” $3 adults, $2 children. Book at Town Hall or door sales from one hour before performance. Fulton Avenue.

Malls Barrington Park Mall: Today and Friday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Army careers display and competition; daily, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., children’s movies.

Northlands Shopping Centre: Today and Friday, Northlands baby of the year show, entry free, free colour portrait.

Rangiora Businessmen’s Association: Five to 12 years. Today, all day, vintage tractor display in Good Street. Friday, 11.30 a.m to 2.30 p.m., sausage sizzle in Good Street.

Riccarton Mall: All ages. Today and Friday, 10.30 a.m, and 1.30 a.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m, Lou Clauson Fun Show. Daily, free continuous movies.

Other activities Canterbury Museum: For all ages. Open daily, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., displays include Antarctica, shipping, prehistory, Maori and Polynesian culture, geology, natural history, birds, European and Oriental fine arts, early Christchurch, early Canterbury and others.

Antigua Boatsheds: All ages. Open daily, 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., canoeing on the Avon River through the Botanic Gardens, paddle boats also available. $2 per person. Phone 65-885.

Cascade Riding Centre, Johns Road: All ages. Treks, lessons, jumping school, horsemanship, riding, phone 69-418.
