Yachting dilemma
PA Auckland The cancellation of competition yesterday has posed a dilemma for organisers of the national secondary schools yachting championships. Six schools are scheduled to contest the final rounds of the Epiglass-sponsored event today and tomorrow, but six have already made the grade. However, Marlborough Boys’ College has to meet Cargill High School today in a resail of the fifth race.
If Marlborough wins it will have to meet Bay of Islands College, Napier Boys’ High and Long Bay College in a sail-off to find the three schools to join Timaru Boys’ High, Fairfield College and Macleans College in the final. A further complication is that Bay of Islands College has lodged a protest against Logan Park High. If the protest is upheld, Bay of Islands College would automatically be assured of a place in the final. Winds of between 30 and 35 knots ruled out any chance of racing at Narrow Neck Beach yesterday.
