Northerners replaced
Two North Island jockeys, Peter Tims and Grant Cooksley, did not compete in the “Top Jockey” competition at Riccarton yesterday. Peter Tims decided on Tuesday not to compete and his place was taken by a fellow North Islander, Brian York. Cooksley was suspended at Matamata on Tuesday and was replaced yesterday by the Wingatui rider, Shane Anderton. Two South Island jockeys, John Dowling and Raymond Bruce, were late withdrawals from the competition after suffering injuries in the second event yesterday, the Star Hurdles. Their substitutes were Robin Montgomery and Sharon Reid respectively.
