Former Minister dies
PA Wellington Mr Arthur Faulkner, member of Parliament for Roskill from 1957 until his retirement in 1981, died at his Auckland home yesterday. He was 63. The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, said he was deeply saddened at the death of Mr Faulkner, a former Minister and Labour Party stalwart.
Mr Faulkner had won the respect of members of both sides of the House during his many years in Parliament, he said. “He had a distinctive style. He was a friend, and trusted colleague who will be sadly missed,” said Mr Lange. .
Mr Faulkner Was Minister of Defence and Minister in charge of Rehabilitation and War Pensions, and then Minister of Labour and Minister in charge of State Services in the Labour Governments headed by Mr Norman Kirk and by Sir Wallace Rowling.
