Police rout naked marchers
NZPA-AAP London Thirty boozy rugby fans marched through a city centre wearing their club ties, and nothing else. They brought traffic to an astonished halt when they rounded off a pub crawl by strolling home naked in the rush hour.
Their clothes were slung over their shoulders as the 30 men, all student teachers, paraded in two columns like a regiment on bath night. The “thin pink line” broke and ran, however, when a vanload of properly dressed policemen pounced.
Most streaked to freedom, but four were arrested, the Magistrates’ Court at York heard.
The prosecuting police officer said the marchers were all members of the same club, St John Rugby Union Club, who had been celebrating after a match when they decided to walk home naked. The four arrested men agreed to be bound over to keep the peace, promising that “it will never happen again.”
