Values will enter race
PA Timaru The Values Party will contest the Timaru by-elec-tion, it announced yesterday. The Values Party’s regional secretary, Mr Jamie Luck, said the successful candidate, already selected from three names put forward, would be named today. He said the decision to make the by-election a fiveparty race revolved round the tradition that by-elec-
tions favoured minor parties. “We have to keep our message in the public view. We can very easily be ignored if we do not contest elections,” he said. The Values Party has contested three General Elections in Timaru, the last in 1978, without making any significant impact. Party supporters will be brought from Christchurch to help the campaign, which will be launched on May 22 with a meeting.
