S.P.I.R. injunction adjourned
PA Auckland Confusion over two groups using the initials S.P.I.R. is to end. The two groups were about to embark on a legal battle over the use of the name S.P.I.R. but the case was settled as yesterday’s injunction hearing was about to begin. S.P.I.R. Inc., the Society for the Promotion of Individual Responsiblity, the anticensorship group, was about to ask Mr Justice Sinclair for an injunction against S.P.I.R. NZ, headed by Mr Pat Hunt and Ms Elizabeth Sutherland. But S.P.I.R. NZ., the Society for the Protection of Individual Rights, the pro-rugby-tour and sporting freedom group, has agreed to consider a name change. Organisers of the Society for the Protection of Individual Rights say they also want to end the confusion and agreed to call an urgent meeting of members to consider the matter. In the meantime, that group had agreed not to use the initials 5.P.1.R., its lawyer told Mr Justice Sinclair in the High Court at Auckland. His Honour adjourned the injunction application indefinitely.
