DEPARTMENT ■ OF LABOUR STATISTICS LIAISON OFFICER WE ARE LOOKING FOR A PERSON who is a selfstarter who can make the most of a job opportunity, to take up a position in the Support Services Division of the Department of Labour. The main tasks involved are: • Dealing with users of statistics both from within Government and from other sectors. • Responsible for maintaining and running EDP programmes, to meet users requests for statistics. • Reporting to departmental management on development of the department’s statistics. • Assisting with the development of new EDP systems. The qualities required are: • Basic understanding of statistical concepts. • An ability to communicate In a non-technical way with users of statistics. • An ability to analyse problems and write concisely. • Accuracy with numbers. The Statistics Section produces the department’s labour market and administrative statistics including employment/unemployment/average wage statistics. A degree in Statistics or Social Sciences is preferred but consideration will be given to persons with previous experience in the statistical field. Although previous experience in EDP work would be an advantage, it is not necessary as training will be given to operate existing systems and in the use of computer packages such as SAS. TURNER MACHINIST A PERMANENT POSITION is offered to an experienced turner machinist who would like to join us at our modern factory, situated a short distance from Church corner, Riccaarton. While work is mainly of a jobbing nature associated with repair and overhaul of our plant, there will be the occasional short runs of production work, required for the manufacture of spares and equipment. We require a versatile machinist who is experienced in the above and who is able to work with very little supervision.
