DUTIES: Initiation and execution of animal nutrition and management grazing studies and the integration of stock classes (sheep, cattle and goats). Specific areas of research include sheep/cattle ratios, wintering requirements of high fertility ewes, goat nutrition requirements for fibre production - effect on quantity and quality, effects of nutrition on various wool production systems. QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: Honours degree in Agriculture or equivalent. SALARY: up to $38,678, depending on qualifications and experience. TECHNICIAN Whatawhata Hill Country Research Station Vacancy No. 4444 A vacancy exists for a technician with the Animal Nutrition and Management Section of this Station, situated 25km West of Hamilton. The appointee will be involved with an experimental programme comprising short-term (4-8 month) trials investigating aspects of animal nutrition and management on hill country. Duties will include all aspects of animal data collection - blood sampling, liveweights, reproductive and lambing data. Pasture sampling for herbage mass and botanical fractions will be carried out. General stock husbandry and management of animal trials is required. Dip. Field Tech, or equivalent or higher qualification desired. It would be preferable for applicant to have one or two working dogs. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience.
