FUTURES Dollars firm but wool easier
Dollar futures, in May traded in a range of 100 points, and ended near but hot at their highs, and above Monday’s closing prices, said Dr Brent Layton, of Marshall Futures. Turnover was moderate, with only 63 contracts traded. The slightly firmer tone in futures reflected the slightly weaker tone of the New Zealand dollar although the day’s high hit $U50.4550. Dr Layton said that wool futures were active, with a relatively high turnover of
135 lots.’ Most were traded at the afternoon call during which prices tumbled by up to 4c. The easier tone was probably because of some pessimism in advance of Thursday’s sale that prices might not stand up, Dr Layton said.
