Sir James could gain seat
NZPA-Reuter San Francisco
Crown Zellerbach says its shareholders have voted overwhelmingly for a management board of directors, but said the British magnate, Sir James Goldsmith, may win a seat on the board. The annual shareholders’ meeting of the forest products company was recessed for a count of the proxies and the final tally may not be known for several weeks, said the chairman, Mr William Creson. Sir James, who said last week that he had increased his stake in Crown to nearly 20 per cent, did not attend the meeting, but a representative nominated him and two others for two of the four vacancies on the board.
“While the final tally may not be available for some time, because of the size of Crown Zellerbach’s stockholder body, we do not believe Goldsmith received substantial stockholder support beyond the Crown shares he owns,” said Mr Creson.
