2000 popular titles in video library
Mr Movie Video Library in Stanmore Road seems bigger on tbe inside than on the outside. The small entrance to the store belies the large collection of more than 2000 video titles housed in the 78,9655q.m premises. The tapes, which have been carefully and personally selected by Mr Movie, are arranged in clearly marked categories around the walls, with multiple copies of popular tapes available so that there is no long waiting list for any one title. Although the stock has doubled during the six months the library has been operating, there is still room for about 1000 more titles which will be accommodated by adding on small projecting panels to the existing walls. The library caters for all family viewing, and the emphasis at Mr Movie’s is on supplying tapes which are in demand. Out of the 2000 titles in the library, Mr Movie admits to having seen all but about half a dozen of those, so his knowledge of titles is a great asset to the customers. As well as recent box office successes, the library offers well known classical favourites, through to movies which are less familiar. Examples of movies available in each section are: “Pollyanna” (children’s movies); “Ice Castles” (romance) “Kramer vs Kramer” (classics); “Gandhi” (drama)’ “Arthur”
(comedy); “Remembering Elvis” (musical); "The Guns of Navarone” (war)’ “When a Stranger Calls” (horror); “Midnight Express” (action); and “The Land that Time Forgot”. Popular series such as the “Pink Panther” and James Bond movies are amongst the large variety, as well as all the classical children’s fairy tales and long-time favourite Walt Disney films. The display in the front window is changed weekly, and Mr Movie is hoping to print lists of the videos
available in each section, so that customers can browse through the titles in their own time. “Blockbusters” which have been available have included “The Day After,” “Terms of Endearment,” “Two of a kind” and “Pharlap.” The tapes are loaned out in protective covers which are supplied complete with the original covers reproduced, to give the customer details of running time, actors and actresses.
The life subscription to the Mr Movie library is $25. Personal identity cards, bearing the customer’s photograph will be issued for such subscriptions. The photographs on the I.D. cards will help guard against misuse if the card is lost or stolen. Casual hirers of videos will be able to select from the large range at Mr Movie’s, although the charge for casual hire is more than for members of the library. Mr Movie is open seven days a week. On Sunday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Members can book a tape in advance, and Mr Movie also sells cleaner tapes. The returning time for all videos of 1 p.m. gives plenty of time for borrowers to return their over-night movies.
