PA Wellington The Postmaster-General, Mr Hunt, left this week for a 26-day overseas trip examining new communication technology. Mr Hunt will visit the Asia Telecom ’B5 conference in Singapore where suppliers of telecommunications equipment from all over the world display technology. It would be an opportunity for New Zealand to update its knowledge of available products and services, Mr Hunt said. He will then visit Japan, where he will sign an agreement to enable better cooperation between the New Zealand Post Office and
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation. He will also have discussions with Fujitsu, N.E.C. Corporation and Sumitomo, which all have important contacts with the Post Office, as well as meeting the Japanese Minister of Posts and Telecommunications. Mr Hunt will then travel to Sweden where he will sign a contract with the Swedish-Telecoms Contracting Company (Swedcom), for a pilot telecommunication record processing system. He will visit London and Washington to look at communications equipment before returning to New Zealand on June 8.
