$49,000 savings stolen
PA Auckland A middle-aged Onehunga man lost his total savings of $49,000 to a thief who smashed into his house through the floorboards. The man, who did not want to be named, kept the ;money in $lOOO bundles of $2O and $5O notes in a small box in a locked spare room of the Rossevelt Avenue house. Detective Bob Smallridge,
of the Onehunga police, said the burglary was discovered when the man returned home from work last day--Someone had crawled under the house and spent a considerable amount of time smashing through the floorboards into a locked room. Detective Smallridge said the cash represented seven years savings.
