Boy found
PA Wellington Mathew Anderson was found yesterday with “street kids” in Nelson. Mathew, aged 14, of Taita, Wellington, had disappeared from home 12 days ago after receiving a summons to give evidence at an inquest into his father’s death.
He was found by the police in a Nelson street and will be reunited with his mother, Mrs Maureen Howie, in Wellington.
Mathew was acclaimed a hero earlier this year after he unsuccessfully tried to save his father from drowning at Foxton beach, north of Wellington.
Two other men also drowned in the accident when they were caught in a strong rip while drag-nett-ing for flounder.
Mathew on April 30 received a summons to his father’s inquest and was last seen by his mother on May 3 when he went to school.
Mrs Howie said she was overjoyed her son had been found.
