PA Auckland A youth who admitted his part hi setting fire to the Panmure branch of Woolworths in January has been sentenced in the High Court at Auckland to four years jail. Moetu Stanley Nepia, aged 19, an unemployed factory hand, of Panmure, had been charged with arson. He also pleaded guilty to four charges of burglary and one of car conversion. Mr Justice Barker said arson was all too prevalent an offence in Auckland. Damage to the Woolworths
branch was estimated at $700,000. It was true, he said, that Nepia did not light the matches which started the fire. In a statement to the police, Nepia had admitted pouring two bottles of petrol near cash registers at the front of the shop. His Honour said the burglaries involved stealing cigarettes with a retail value of $11,700, from warehouses. He ordered that the terms of imprisonment in respect of each of the charges be concurrent.
