Brent Todd returns to S.I. league side

Brent Todd, the young Canterbury and Junior Kiwis prop forward, returns to the South Island rugby league squad for the final of the Travelseekers districts championship against Auckland at Greymoutli on Sunday. It is almost certain that Todd will be reserve forward, with the pack retaining the formation it had after Wayne Dwyer (West Coast) suffered a broken ankle against Central Districts at Lower Hutt last Sunday.

All of the backs who shared in the record 32-6 defeat of Central have been chosen, but the South Island coach, Ray Haffenden, said yesterday that he was still mulling over the order in which they will

line out. Mr Haffenden said that the 1983 Kiwi wing, Marty Crequer, who was used as a substitute last week-end because he had not recovered fully from a shoulder injury, would start the match. Crequer is also experienced in the centres and his position had still to be decided.

In his other capacity as coach of Canterbury, Mr Haffenden has a squad of 18 eers to prepare for the ~by League Cup defence against Auckland on May 21 and the match with St Helens five days later. It comprises all of the players who made the northern tour in April, and the South Island full-back, Robin Alfeld, who was not available earlier in the

season because of business commitments. The team proper for the cup defence will be named after South’s game with Auckland. The squads are.— South Island (from Canterbury unless otherwise stated); R.
